Personal Memorial Day Thoughts and Prayer

Every day I pray that the Lord will awaken the spirits in Christian leaders and raise them up with the backbone, courage and wisdom of ones such as our founding fathers.

"Dear Heavenly Father,

How wonderful You are and what comfort You bring to us that we can go at any hour of the day and night to draw near You and open our hearts before Your throne of grace. I praise Your Holy Name for the goodness and mercy that are with You and for all that You have shared with us.

As you assured your prophets Elijah and Elisha that there were many on the right side whom they could not see in times of great peril, so I take that as a truth that there are still many people in this place who are on the right side. I pray that You will reach down to those who know You - who maybe are just working along steadily without too much exertion, but nonetheless belong to You and believe that they are serving well. You know I am speaking of those to whom we have given power in our government and responsible positions in our land. They are those, who need to stand up and redeem the beautiful, patriotic nation before the last vestiges of honor, patriotism and truth have been trashed by those who are on the wrong tracks in their thinking and leading of this great nation.

The problems are so large that the only way one person can make a difference is to fall on the knees of their heart and plead with You for help, leadership and salvation in all that is good and decent left in this world today. I beg of You one more time for the sake of all of us who love You, worship You and praise You that You will bring about an unmistakable turn-around in thinking and governing in this country. Help each of us know what we can do and how best to spend our time.

Oh, Father, please set things aright and put them back in their proper places through mighty men who can inspire and lead our country in the right direction. So much straightening, cleaning and cleansing needs to be done in the house of this nation where good is being called evil and evil being called good. Cleanse it from the top to the bottom and in all areas - from government - to entertainment - to the churches. Father, You know that at each meeting and service in many churches things are being taught that sound good, but do not have any Biblical foundation. There are those who are too good for their own good and who are leading others to be so sensitive that evil is given a place at every turn, and in many instances, has more favor than that which is right.

Father, we need You to step in and call forth the best in Your people, for only in our prayers depending on You is there strength enough to defeat the evil and enemies of this nation and its peoples. I ask You all of this for the sake of our children, grand-children and for all the generations to follow. Bring about great things that cannot be mistaken for anything other than Your power and intentions for us that it may bring great glory to Your Name. I ask it in the name of Your Precious Only Son, Jesus Christ, my Saviour and Lord. Amen!"

On Memorial Day and every day, my heart is full for the service men and women who are doing all they are asked to do and more. I mourn for all those who have suffered injuries and who have died fighting for our country to save freedom for me. I say thanks for our forefathers and ancestors who toiled and worshipped our God. I praise the Lord for inspiring the making of our flag that represents a rich history of Christian men and women who sought to make their corner of the world great, good and peaceful.

I firmly believe our only hope is in prayer to our Heavenly Father to raise up leaders like we have not seen in a very, very long time. And, I am praying it will begin in this presidential campaign. We need God's protection to provide a sterling leader for the grave and serious future we are facing.

Much responsibility for our future rests with parents in following God's directions rearing children. Passing on love for our Saviour and Lord and the Holy Bible, knowledge of history and love of country to the next generation falls, in the larger part, on what is taught and lived before the children at home. That has broken down in many instances. If we are to have strong, Godly leaders for the future, I believe that has to begin at the cradle, today. "Again I plead, please touch the hearts of parents, dear Father."

God bless you on Memorial Day and every day that we may remember why we are celebrating and rejoice for the wonderful servants God has provided for us over the years.
