Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You today for being the model and example for fathers everywhere by being the best father anyone could have. Thank You for Your strict discipline that trains us to stay away from dangers and teaches us the good things to choose to make life the best it can be. Bless Your Holy Name for all the good that proceeds out from Your Throne. Wherever You are named, that place is always the better for it. What a wonderful thing it is for an earthly father to say, that wherever his name is mentioned, all is better for it! Bless all the fathers who can have that said about them.

I pray today for all fathers that their hearts will be touched somehow to realize the greatest gift in all the world that they can give their children is to be a good father like You. I pray that as they set aside their own dreams many times in order to fulfill the duties and responsibilities in caring for their families, that they will receive many blessings and be rewarded openly before all who observe them and their lives. I pray for fathers to watch their finances, guard how their money is spent and teach their children how to make good use of the money - to use it, not to love it, not to make a god of it, nor waste it and to give to the Lord's work. Show them how to make good impressions on their families by providing only good things for them from the money earned from their labors.

Father help them as they go about their work and interests in their community to stand strong and stand up for the right way to do things. Help them to bring stability and love into the place where they make their homes - with Your kind of thinking and Your kind of Love (which is always putting what is best for the other first - Agape' love.)

Teach them to spend ample time with their children, not hurriedly, nor out of a sense of "have to", but out of genuine love and a desire to start them off on the best path possible in life. Help them know how to instill in their children how to make things, how do things and how to handle things, so they will become sterling models to others around them who might not have the good guidance they need at home. Help them to know how much and the types of discipline needed to make the training a part of their beings. Teach the fathers how, after strict discipline, to then swing open their arms, greet them with a hug and to give love with each advice.

Dear Heavenly Father, guide and teach the father, as a husband, that there is a wonderful, free gift that he can give to his children. That gift is to love and protect their mother, assist her in discipline and training and discuss things when agreement is not met. Teach him to show love and respect at all times before the children, so that they in turn in their adult lives will pass on down through the generations tenderness and success in their relationships.

Above all, dear Heavenly Father, through all means that You have possible to reach the fathers, speak to them and encourage them to lead their families in worship and church attendance. Help them to overcome the fatigue from their hard week's work, and their need for more rest and sleep, in order to cheerfully and positively lead the family in their church life.

Father have mercy on fathers who set aside many dreams, who deny themselves, so their family can have what they need, who work without proper rest, who cannot afford proper healthcare, who will do for wife and children before themselves and keep putting it off. Watch over these who sometimes never get around to doing anything for themselves. Protect their health, their minds, their spirits and their lives, for often they do not realize how great and important they are as a good father. Bless them with a good feeling about themselves and their inestimable value in the family. Bless them with love and honor from their wife and children in thanks for their good care. Whisper to their families just what would make their hearts leap for joy and cause that to come to pass.

I pray for the fathers who come home tired and late and tiptoe into the children's rooms and maybe lay their hand on them to feel their breaths and impart a blessing, or lay a kiss upon their brow. I pray for the father who comes home so tired that he falls into bed with a fleeting thought of how much he would have loved to have been at dinner that night with his family. I pray for the fathers who have dangerous jobs at odd hours - policemen, firemen, rescue personnel, guards and all manner of jobs - they who often on their watches in the wee hours allow their minds to wander back to the warm lights of home and long to be there. I pray for fathers who are far away serving our country and kiss tattered photos of wives and of children that maybe they have not even seen, their children having been born after they left home. I pray for the fathers who are wounded or ill and lie in hospitals longing to be that strong dad just as before. And, please Father, go with those fathers who turn their dying last thoughts toward home and their children, their wives and loved ones.

May the fathers of our land become the best fathers in all the world. May their examples shine as the sun, moon and stars o'er all the world and make a good difference in many lives. Thank you dear Heavenly Father for setting up the plan of family in the way You have. I pray over the words 'Christian family", for there is the foundation under faith in You, Father, for all that can be good in life for children and the parents themselves. I have faith in and believe in my prayer requests today. I ask You to send answers abundantly to fathers on the special Father's Day set aside for them and indeed every day throughout the year. And as You do, please hear our thanks for all our good fathers through whom You showered so much good and blessings upon our lives. Thank you for them and for the forefathers of this nation who led under Your banner and for Your glory. I beg and plead today for more of them. I pray this in the name of Your precious Only Son, Jesus Christ, my Saviour and Lord.

Amen.
