God,
Our Heavenly Father,
As a gift to us, might have
taken:
The
strength of a mountain,
The
majesty of a tree,
The
warmth of a summer sun,
The
calm of a quiet sea,

The
generous soul of nature,
The
comforting arm of night,
The
wisdom of the ages,
The
power of the eagle's flight,

The
joy of a morning in spring,
The
faith of a mustard seed,
The
patience of eternity,
The
depth of a family need,

Then
God combined these qualities,
And
when there was nothing more
to add,
He
knew His masterpiece was complete,
And
so, He called it ... Dad

Ephesians 6:4

| Father's
Day was started by Mrs.
John Dodd. Her father, William
Jackson Smart, had raised
his six children by himself
after his wife died in childbirth.
Mrs. Dodd proposed June
5, 1910, as a day to honor
fathers and sought support
from local ministers in
Spokane, Washington. The
ministers agreed, but changed
the date to June 19, feeling
they needed extra time to
prepare sermons on the unexplored
subjects of fathers. Later,
Congress officially changed
the date to the third Sunday
in June. |
