The Old Man's steps were stumbling
as he stopped to rest a while
Then he sat down and offered me
a handshake and a smile
He said "The Road into town is hard and long,

But Jesus gives me strength to carry on."
Then he said, "Jesus is with me every mile.
Tho these old bones complain I wear a smile.
Cause when I climb that golden stairway
to my sweet by and by
I know Jesus will be with me every mile."
He said "They took my license and told me I can't drive.
But a man still needs his groceries to keep himself
alive.
When it seems I just can't make it down life's road
My Dear Savior is there to share my load."
Then we sang, "Jesus is with me every mile.
Tho these old bones complain I wear a smile
Cause when I climb that golden stairway
to my sweet by and by
I know Jesus will be with me every mile."
Well he took his last walk down that road yesterday
A tattered Bible was found upon his breast.
And the note that he left said, "Friend, I'm
on my way.
But this time I won't have to stop and rest."
Now I know Jesus was with him every mile
Until he reached his home in the sky.
Now when I drive down that road
His memory brings back a smile.
Cause he showed me that Jesus
Is with me every mile ... every mile.
