THE
MEANING OF MERRY CHRISTMAS TO A CHRISTIAN

"For
unto us a child is born .. His Name shall be called Wonderful,Counselor,
The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:6
For a Christian, the
joy of Christmas does not end or is not exclusively
a time or date to celebrate.
The whole theme of our celebration is based
as much on the death
and resurrection of Jesus as it is His glorious birth.
The spirit of love
and generosity and forgiveness that we often feel more
keenly during this
time of year is the afterglow of Calvary! The immeasurable
Gift of God to us cannot
compare with any earthly gift we could give to
one another. We love
and adore Him all year, but it's good to have a time
when we focus upon
and again remember and pay homage for the greatest
Gift given to mankind
.. God gave us hope for eternal life in the
Person of Jesus Christ
our Lord!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
A phrase we use often
during the holidays. I'd like to delve into the meaning
of 'merry' so we can
have a fresh view of the saying and remember better the
true meaning of the
well wishing greeting. The word, 'Merry' is from an old
Anglo Saxon word meaning
"famous, great, mighty, illustrious"
It did not necessarily
imply 'mirth' or 'merriment' in the same way we use it
today. Rather, it expressed
the meaning of "strength, gallantry, valour"
Gallant soldiers were
called 'Merry Men' .. good weather, 'Merry Weather'
London was called in
days of old, "Merry London" .. The word carries a
double meaning of 'might
and mirth' in the original form and in scripture.
"God Rest Ye Merry
Gentlemen" an early Christmas Carol, speaks of a
spiritual merriment
that we as Christians should feel and display because
we know that we are
one of God's family because of the Gift of Salvation
which came to us by
Jesus, giving us new life in a new birth!
So with that in mind,
let us wish each other a
MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Love and Good Will
to You All!
In Christ Our Lord,
Genelle
